Inaugural Renault UK Clio Cup Junior Calendar Announced

1 Mins read

The race dates for the inaugural running of the Renault UK Clio Cup Junior championship have been announced, with the series set to be contested over twelve races.

A late start to the season sees the season opener at Thruxton in June, with visits to Rockingham and Donington Park coming next prior to a seven week summer break.

The second half of the year features trips to Snetterton and Brands Hatch, before the season finale at Pembrey in mid-October – the only non-BTCC circuit on the calendar.

As planned, none of the Junior’s race weekends will clash with the main Renault UK Clio Cup’s outings on the BTCC support package, allowing teams to compete in both series.

The visits to Thruxton, Donington, Snetterton and Pembrey will see the series race alongside the popular British Truck Racing Association Championship.

Provisional 2017 Renault UK Clio Cup Junior Calendar:

Rounds 1&2 – Sat 3/Sun 4 June – Thruxton, Hampshire
Rounds 3&4 – Sat 1/Sun 2 July – Rockingham, Northamptonshire
Rounds 5&6 – Sat 22/Sun 23 July – Donington Park, Leicestershire
Rounds 7&8 – Sat 9/Sun 10 September – Snetterton, Norfolk
Round 9&10 – Sat 23/Sun 24 September – Brands Hatch, Kent
Rounds 11&12 – Sat 14/Sun 15 October – Pembrey, Carmarthenshire

Renault Sport UK’s Motorsport Championship Manager Will Fewkes commented: “I’m really pleased with the UK Clio Cup Junior championship’s first calendar and our thanks go to the British Automobile Racing Club for helping to arrange this.

“The mixture of circuits will really test the teams and drivers. Notably the first five are on the senior UK Clio Cup’s calendar with the BTCC and that will be of appeal to our young drivers. Pembrey meanwhile adds an interesting challenge – and possibly a twist – right at the end of the season.

“Furthermore the BTRA Championship always pulls a crowd and this will have extra benefits for our grid in terms of event promotion.”
