British Touring Car Championship star Adam Morgan has expressed his delight at keeping Max Coates as part of his family’s Ciceley Motorsport team for the 2017 Renault UK Clio Cup.
The Lancashire-based outfit made their Clio Cup debuts this season with a three-car entry, from which Coates emerged as a series front-runner in his first campaign in the championship.
The Yorkshireman ended the campaign with two pole positions and seven podium finishes including one win, which took him to third in the final standings and the Graduate Cup title.
Coates is Ciceley’s first confirmed driver for the 2017 Clio Cup, with Morgan feeling he has made the right decision in committing to the championship for a second season.
“It’s fantastic to keep Max on board for 2017 – he was a revelation in 2016 and he will undoubtedly go into next season among the favourites for the crown,” said Morgan.
“He is doing it absolutely the right way – treating the championship as a minimum two-year programme before then looking to make the next move instead of rushing to get there before he’s ready.
“That can and does trip up many young drivers. He’s got a wise head on young shoulders and everyone at Ciceley is very excited about working with him again.”
