Douglas Sign Canning For 2017 Junior Campaign

1 Mins read

Karting star Tom Canning will graduate to car-racing for the first time this season with Douglas Motorsport in the Ginetta Junior Championship.

Canning makes the transition to the Ginetta’s after finishing third overall in BNL European Junior Max and British Super One Mini Max last year.

The Somerset racer, who turns fifteen next month, has some experience of the Ginetta G40 though, having contested the last two Scholarships.

At his first attempt in 2015, Canning reached the final twelve alongside current series stars Dan Harper, Seb Priaulx and Harry King, before getting into the top ten last year.

“Karting will always be an important part of my motorsport career, wherever I may go. However you have to move on to make progression to achieve your dream,” said Canning.

“This is the perfect time for me to move on and prove myself at the next stage of my development. I believe that Douglas Motorsport and I can achieve great things together and I am honoured to be working with them for the 2017 season.”

Canning will be a potential Rookie Class front-runner with leading squad Douglas Motorsport, who took the class title last season with Harper.

Douglas Team Principal Wayne Douglas added: “I’m delighted to have Tom, one of Britain’s top kart drivers move into the Ginetta Junior class with us. We are excited about next season and hope Tom will enjoy great success in his Rookie year in cars.”
