Streather Heads To WDE For Second Clio Cup Campaign

1 Mins read

Renault UK Clio Cup race-winner Paul Streather will switch to the WDE Motorsport outfit for his second full season in the BTCC support series.

Streather finished seventh overall with the Finesse Motorsport squad during his debut season last year, taking a solitary victory in the season opener at Brands Hatch.

A rough run of results following that success saw the 27 year old not finish on the podium again, but seven top six finishes earnt him seventh in the final standings.

“I’ve tested with WDE and, with them, I’ll have full-time team-mates to compare data with which is bound to bring me on more as a driver. They also have vast experience of running the UK Clio Cup race car,” said Streather.

“I really want to thank Finesse though for the effort they put into me in 2016 and leaving has been a bit of a wrench. They are a fantastic bunch of people and I’ll always remain friends with them.”

The Hinckley-based racer is WDE’s first confirmed driver for the 2017 campaign, having run Paul Rivett and Charlie Ladell full-time last season.

“Paul’s signature really adds to the driving force of WDE in 2017 – in 2016, still new to the championship, he became a winner and showed great race craft and that he’s one of the best overtakers in the business,” commented WDE Team Principal Wayne Eason.

“Building on his experiences from 2016 we believe we have the set-up to see him emerge as a genuine title challenger in 2017. We look forward to announcing at least two more drivers in the near future.”
