The Rockingham Motor Speedway played host to the F4 British Championship‘s final pre-season test day. It was TRS Arden driver Oscar Piastri who topped the morning and afternoon sessions, recording a best time of 1min 18.817 seconds.
While the majority of the currently confirmed British F4 grid attended the test day, once again, a few notable names were absent from the field. Jamie Caroline, who’d topped the last session was missing, along with the JHR Developments team and Yves Baltas, who was once again replaced by Alex Quinn.
Piastri himself had a strong start to the morning, taking the lead early in the day. He wasn’t the only driver to find himself on top though, as Linus Lundqvist and Patrik Pasma usurped his time early on. A late flurry of laps eventually saw the Australian regain the fastest lap, with a 1min 18.939.
The afternoon proved to be a much quieter affair for most of the field. Piastri and Logan Sargeant had been the only drivers under the 1min 19 second barrier during the morning and the pair once again one-two during the afternoon affair, with 0.1 seconds separating them.
Piastri and Sargeant, who both recently competed in the UAE Formula 4 championship, have been regular front-runners throughout the tests and will be drivers to watch come the first round at Brands Hatch.
Oliver York meanwhile, continued to surprise the opposition with another strong result in third. The Ford F4 Challenge Cup driver beat Lundqvist by two hundredths of a second, ensuring four different teams covered the top four.
In fifth and sixth respectably were Ayrton Simmons and Alex Quinn in the Arden’s. Another strong drive from the Brits, coupled with a years experience, will make them dangerous opposition come the first round, though Quinn has still yet to sign with any team.
The top eight was eventually rounded out by Pasma and Harry Webb, who put in another strong performance for Richardson Racing, completing the most amount of laps. Also testing at the track were five BRDC British F3 drivers from Carlin and Double R Racing, Autumn Trophy champion Enaam Ahmed led the way with a 1min 13.556.
