Finnish owned team Koiranen GP’s future has been in doubt for sometime but they have now officially confirmed they will leave the GP3 Series.
The third tier of single seater racing, including the Formula 3 European Championship, is finding itself in a crisis and is proving increasingly difficult to attract drivers to the series’.
Due to this situation the categories find themselves in there is the potential for them to merge in the future.
Joining the championship in 2013, Aaro Vainio won the reverse grid race at the opening round in Barcelona.
The Finn took another victory in the feature race at the Hungaroring, following Kevin Korjus claiming the team’s first pole position at Silverstone.
Jimmy Eriksson, Dean Stoneman, Ralph Boschung and Matt Parry took further victories for the team.
Having also withdrawn from Formula Renault 2.0 last year Koiranen’s racing activities are now based around SMP and Spanish Formula 4, both of which it organises.
