Jenzer Motorsport‘s Arjun Maini dominated the sprint race at the Circuit de Catalunya-Barcelona to claim his first victory in the GP3 Series.

Maini easily grabbed the lead into turn one after pole-man Raoul Hyman made a poor getaway with Dorian Boccolacci making a strong start from third on the grid but got stuck behind the South African but finally got the move done.

Boccolacci attempted to push Maini for the lead but the Indian was able to keep the Frenchman behind.

Anthoine Hubert soon also disposed of Hyman and undertook to join the two battling it out front.

Maini and Boccolacci were running side by side all around the circuit as their battle for the lead intensified which was resolved when a small moment of contact saw the Frenchman stumble and fall back allowing Maini to scamper away.

Alessio Lorandi was once again on a charge to easily dispatch of Hyman before setting about closing the gap ot Hubert, easing past the Frenchman into Turn 1 with five laps to go but did not have enough time to make attempt for second place.

The newly announced Haas F1 development driver Maini sailed to the line to take Jenzer’s first win since 2012.

Boccolacci held off the charging Lorandi to grab P2 by a second, with the Italian taking his second third place of the weekend. Hubert was joined in the closing stages by team-mates George Russell and Saturday’s race winner Nirei Fukuzumi, with Hyman holding on to P7 ahead of Santino Ferrucci who claimed the final points paying position.

Leaving Barcelona, Fukuzumi leads the drivers’ title on 29 points ahead of Lorandi on 25, Maini on 21 with Boccolacci, Russell and Hubert all on 20 points ahead of Leonardo Pulcini on 18.

ART Grand Prix lead the teams’ championship on 73 points ahead of Jenzer on 46, Trident on 20 and Arden International on 18 points.

The drivers will not take to the track again until 7-9 July when they will take on the Red Bull Ring in Austria.
