Two weeks after it was announced the initial running of the Renault UK Clio Cup Junior championship was going to be postponed, a revised four-event calendar has been announced to take place later this year.
The inaugural running of the championship will now run over four double-header meetings, with visits to Snetterton (9/10 September), Brands Hatch (23/24 September) and Pembrey (14/15 October) having been kept from the initial planned calendar.
The championship will then come to a conclusion with a return to Brands Hatch (18/19 November) to race as part of the annual Britcar ‘Into The Night’ event alongside the Dunlop Mini Se7en Championship and Ginetta Junior Winter Series.
The winner of the series will receive a free registration into the senior Renault UK Clio Cup, a prize worth almost £18,000 which they must take within two years, while second and third place will earn £2,000 and £1,000 towards registration into either the senior or junior Clio Cup in 2018.
“So soon after having to postpone our original intentions, we are absolutely delighted to be able to announce that Renault UK Clio Cup Junior will still go ahead in 2017,” said RenaultSport UK’s Motorsport Championship Manager Will Fewkes.
“As has been well documented we were not comfortable running the championship without some aspects that were out of our control being in place. Well now they have very much come together and UK Clio Cup Junior is very much go.
“The registration fee is less than half of the original six-event calendar and the value of the prize structure is clearly very significant – we believe this will appeal to drivers. Enquiries about UK Clio Cup Junior remain very strong and we look forward to receiving more in the coming months ahead of our opening rounds at Snetterton in September.”
