George Russell topped the GP3 Series practice session at Silverstone which features an altered scheduled for the British Grand Prix weekend.
The weekend is now a four-day event for the drivers with practice taking place on Thursday, qualifying on Friday, the Feature Race Saturday evening and the Sprint Race on Sunday morning.
Steijn Schothorst led the way at the start of the session, but was soon beaten by Alessio Lorandi who claimed the first sub two minute lap time with a 1m50.714.
As the track started to rubber in more, the name at the top of the standings rapidly changed as Arjun Maini, Ryan Tveter, Niko Kari, Jack Aitken and Dorian Boccolacci each took to the head of the timings.
Nirei Fukuzumi brought his ART Grand Prix to the head of the timings, with Aitken briefly making it an ART 1-2 until his time was bettered by Kari.
Many of the drivers were having problems with running wide with the circuit still lacking the grip they needed.
DAMS‘ Bruno Baptista had a big moment over the kerbs and would be keen to not have a repeat performance of his incident at the Red Bull Ring which resulted in him hurting his back.
Lorandi had an issue which saw him slow on track and eventually pull off to the side with a minute and a half remaining in the session.
It was soon an ART 1-2-3 as first Aitken, then Fukuzumi and finally George Russell went quickest. They were soon joined by Anthoine Hubert to make it an all ART top four.
Tomorrow’s half an hour qualifying session gets underway at 16.05 local time.
