The 2017 British Superbike season has reached the crucial Showdown stage, with six riders battling it out for the title. But that doesn’t stop 2018 contracts being signed, and the first of those was released today.

Ulsterman Glenn Irwin will stay with the Be Wiser Ducati team for the 2018 season. Although he has suffered with injury, he has still had an impressive season including his maiden win last time out at Silverstone. Irwin will partner Shane Byrne, who’s two year contract was signed at the beginning of this year.

Both riders will continue on the factory backed Panigale R and Be Wiser will remain the title sponsors.

Byrne has won five races so far and leads the Championship into this weekend’s Oulton Park round. Alongside his maiden win, Irwin also won the prestigious Superbike race at the 2017 Northwest 200, prior to injury.

Speaking of the signings, team owner Paul Bird said, “We offered a two-year deal to Shakey and this is our commitment to honouring that as he continues to be a class act in BSB. Glenn has also shown what a talent he is and despite his injuries, he’s had a great season for us. We wanted to be the first team to commit to the series for 2018 and continue with the great team we have.”

“We can now concentrate all our efforts on doing our best to win the 2017 British Superbike Championship.”
