The second Renault UK Clio Cup race last weekend at Rockingham saw Matrix Motorsport driver Michael Epps drive a superb race to score his second podium finish in 2018.
Qualifying in eighth for the first race, Epps was to finish in the same position he started following a tough drive to stay out of trouble.
Race two was where Mike highlighted his skills in tough conditions.
Starting from eighth again, the Matrix Motorsport Clio began to work its way to the front of the field in a series of superb overtaking manoeuvres.
A move on current championship leader Max Coates gave Mike second place and he began to chase down Jack McCarthy in first.
However, his Clio began to lose grip in the last few laps so in a show of maturity. A decision was made to consolidate the second place finish. His second podium finish of 2018 after the third place in race one at Snetterton.
Mike was ecstatic with this result,
“What a race!
“That was much more like it, ducking and diving, different lines every lap. Loved it. We seem to lack pace just a tiny bit on a few drivers in the dry, which is frustrating, but wet conditions always level things out and it’s down to the driver a little bit more.
“It was great today to take advantage of that and if I was just a length or two closer I would’ve been going in hard for that win for the team. I want to get a win in the bag for them in their first year, they’ve worked hard and I’m proud of what we’ve managed as a new outfit in our first season.”
