Jakub Kornfeil finished top of FP3 at Silverstone, a session that was slow to see much track action due to the wet patches on the track. The wet patches were caused by the heavy rain that fell yesterday and the cold temperatures this morning are clearly not enough to dry the track.
Kornfeil’s fastest lap was time of 2:16.621, over 2 seconds slower than the fastest time we saw yesterday from Tony Arbolino. Philipp Oettl and Marcos Ramirez finished 2nd and 3rd. It was Aron Canet consistently setting fastest laps midway through the session, but once other riders decided to put in some laps he dropped down the order to 8th.
Only a small number of riders braved the conditions from the start of FP3, including Alonso Lopez, Arbolino and Nakarin Atiratphuvapat. Lopez completed the highest number of laps in the session with a total of 14. Others decided to wait until the last 5 minutes to get a feel of the conditions, with Jorge Martin completing a total of 4 laps and his championship rival Marco Bezzecchi only 3. Martin finished in 9th place and Bezzecchi 21st.
Bezzecchi did find traffic on his fast lap though, with a near collision between himself and British wildcard rider Tom Booth-Amos that may be the cause of his lower position in the standings. Home rider John McPhee finished 19th, 1.7 seconds off the pace set by Kornfeil, whilst British wildcards Booth-Amos and Jake Archer finished 26th and 27th respectively.
Tomorrow is looking extremely wet throughout the day so the conditions on track in FP3 won’t have been very helpful to the riders in terms of finding a race set up as only some small parts of the track were damp. It’s looking like warm up tomorrow will be the only wet track time the riders get before the race.
