With an 82-point lead in the championship standings, and an 87.5% win rate so far in 2018, Dan Lloyd has been by far the stand-out performer in the 2018 TCR UK Series. That said, as the championship heads to Oulton Park this weekend, the Huddersfield-based racer is as hungry as ever for success.
Although it hasn’t seemed to hinder his dominance thus far, Lloyd’s Volkswagen Golf GTI TCR will again be laden with 60kg of compensation weight ballast. As such, it’ll be up to him and the WestCoast Racing team to prepare the car as well as possible for the demanding characteristics of the picturesque Oulton Park circuit.
For Lloyd, keeping up the momentum of his performances has been key to his dominance of the championship so far. As the TCR UK Series heads to what he considers to be his ‘home circuit’, Lloyd will be increasingly eager to keep up that winning trend.
“I’m really looking forward to going to Oulton Park in the TCR car;” said Lloyd. “I love it. It’s one of my favourite circuits in the UK. I do think of it as my home circuit, even though it’s in Cheshire. It’s my closest track and I have a lot of great memories there.”
“I’m really looking forward to getting stuck in. Hopefully the compensation weight won’t be as much of a disadvantage for us this weekend. The Honda will be running with 20kg so that should help us out a little.”
“We need to keep the momentum going into the final rounds. I lost a win last time, so it’s made me more determined to push for pole and another clean sweep again.”
However, as the reigning British Touring Car Champion Ashley Sutton is set to make a guest appearance, Lloyd may find that he doesn’t have things all his own way this weekend.
In a unique twist for the championship, qualifying and both races will take place all on the same day, Saturday 4th August. As such, every session will be broadcast live on the TCR UK YouTube channel, so fans won’t miss out on any of the action in what is set to be quite a busy day for the teams and drivers.
