Richard Verschoor’s first day in the GP3 Series saw him qualify fifteenth on the grid on Friday at Spa-Francorchamps, but the young Dutchman has subsequently been disqualified from the session and will start from the pit lane for Saturday’s opening race.
The Dutchman, a former member of the Red Bull Junior Team, is stepping up into the GP3 Series this weekend with MP Motorsport in place of the FIA Formula 2-bound Dorian Boccolacci and had out-qualified his team-mates in Niko Kari and Devlin DeFrancesco.
However, the failure of Verschoor to stop at the weighbridge during the session has resulted in his lap times being deleted, with technical delegates unable to determine whether the car was in a condition that would make it eligible to set a lap time in Qualifying.
Arden International’s Julien Falchero will move up to fifteenth on the grid as a result ahead of Kari, with Campos Racing’s Diego Menchaca, DeFrancesco and Jenzer Motorsport’s Jannes Fittje all moving up a position thanks to Verschoor’s exclusion.
David Beckmann will start on pole position for the race, his first pole position since September 2015 when he took pole for the opening race of the Italian Formula 4 championship at the Adria International Raceway whilst driving for Mücke Motorsport.
