A new Renault UK Clio Cup car has begun development ahead of a projected maiden season in 2020.
Replacing the current 220 Trophy Clio which has been used in the series since 2014, the new 2020 car hasn’t had any important details released so far therefore very little is known about the technical specifications. However, Renault Sport have come forward with the information that the new Clio isn’t going to be a massive departure from the current model.
Renault Sport also confirmed they have been speaking to teams in regards to gaining valuable feedback towards development.
Speaking to Autosport, Renault Sport Racing sporting manager Tarik Ait confirmed the developments of a new car and why it’s important to keep costs down in the Clio Cup series,
“Development is underway but we are not looking for outright performance.
“One reason for the success of the Clio Cup is cost control and we have to make sure the car is affordable for everyone.
“We see the paddock is growing with bigger teams but at the same time we have to be careful it doesn’t turn into a very expensive category.”
