Brazilian karting star Roberto Faria will make his car racing debut in British Formula 4 with Fortec Motorsport next season.

Faria has enjoyed success on the national and international karting stage, making him an early favourite for F4’s rookie cup.

The Brazilian is preparing for a steep learning curve this season, and aims to learn as much as possible as he makes the step up to car racing.

“I am delighted to be entering the British F4 Championship with such a prestigious team such as Fortec Motorsport for 2019,” he said.

“This will be my first year in cars and I’m excited to learn and absorb as much knowledge over the season as possible.

“I can’t wait to start working with the Fortec Development program and learn all the British tracks on the Fortec Simulator while working on my fitness and strength.

“I’m focused on learning as much as possible this year and look forward to starting this new partnership with Fortec for the 2019 season.”

Faria will get time in the simulator before his first chance to drive the Ford powered Formula 4 car at Valencia next month.

He is the first driver to be confirmed by Fortec for the 2019 season, and team boss Ollie Dutton is confident he will be able to challenge at the front of the field.

“We are thrilled to have Roberto join the team for the 2019 season,” he said.

“It is clear that Roberto possesses plenty of ambition and passion and we look forward to fine tuning his skills and working closely with him in our driver development program.

“This year will be a massive learning curve for Roberto, but I am confident he will mature into a competitive driver challenging for the podium, and with hard work and determination a strong contender for the Rookie Cup.”

He is the third driver to be confirmed for the upcoming season, with Luke Browning making the step from Ginetta Juniors with Richardson Racing, and Finley Green confirmed at Carlin.
