The first running of the Legends class at the All-Star ‘Magic Weekend’ saw two-time World Rally champion Marcus Grönholm set the fastest qualification time on Friday.
Thursday saw the All-Star ‘Magic Weekend’ kick off, with reigning RallyX Nordic champion Robin Larsson taking home the first trophy of the season, but on Friday was the Legends who took to the track.
The class was introduced especially for this weekend with five of the world’s best rallycross drivers all competing with a qualifying shoot-out where the grid was decided for Q1.
Double World Rally champion Grönholm was driving his son Niclas’ Hyundai i20 for the Legends race, with Grönholm Jr also competing at the track this weekend.
New rules were decided just before the start of the shoot-out, meaning Marcus competed in Q1 against Henning Solberg and Per Eklund while second fastest driver Andreas Eriksson lined up against Stig-Olov Walfridson.
Grönholm took control of his heat after the restart caused by a jump start by Eklund and he went on to set a fastest time of 2m58.771, nearly a second quciker that son Niclas’ managed on Thursday.
