Forty-seven-year-old 2017 FIA European Autocross Champion Aleš Fučík from the Czech Republic will be making his RallyX Nordic debut at the season-opener in Nysum in Denmark on 1/2 May. He is set to be entering the ever growing Supercar field in an ex-Marklund Motorsport built Volkswagen Polo.
Fučík, who won the crown in the TouringAutocross class in 2017, has since then only focused on doing rallycross. When he started to contest the FIA European Rallycross Championship in 2018, he used the very same Skoda Fabia that he won the crown with the year before, but with some upgrades to fit within the regulations of rallycross.
After his first season in rallycross, he reached out to buy one of the Marklund Motorsport cars, which he has used since then, during the 2019 season it didn´t go really well for him but last year things got turned around as he managed to reach the semi-final three times and ended up the season finishing in eight overall.
“We decided to enter RallyX Nordic because of the high-quality field and strong competition in the Supercar class. It will be the first event of the season for us before the European Championship kicks off, and my first time racing at Nysum so I don’t have any particular goal in mind,” Fučík said.
“We have made some changes to the car over the winter, so this will be a very good test for us. Nobody knows how things will go with the COVID-19 restrictions this year, so we want to compete in as many races as possible. We are also thinking about entering Höljes a fortnight later, but let’s see how Denmark goes first! I’m looking forward to it.”
