Eleven-year-old Lauri Halonen, from Kouvola in Finland, is one of the many Finns that have committed to enter the RallyX Nordic CrossCar Junior this season.
Halonen, who began his motorsport lifestyle at the age of seven as he entered the FinRX series´ Crosskart Mini back in 2017 and already in his second season, he graduated up to the 85cc class where he claimed a respectful third place in the overall standings with a Winter Series title crown following.
In 2019, he wrote history in the Crosskart books as he became the first ever Finn to claim the Northern European Championship (NEZ) championship title in the 85cc classs, and he continued to turn heads last season by winning yet another Winter Series crown.
As the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic disrupted the Finnish national series last summer, Halonen did enter the one-off event Rallicross Challenge in Hyvinkää where he won the class being unbeatable for the most part of the two rounds that weekend.
This season, the CFA Academy member will be stepping up behind the wheel of a 600cc CrossCar Junior machinery, which is manufactured by Ydrefalk Motorsport, that he will use for his RallyX Nordic season debut – where he aims high and hopes to claim some podium finishes throughout the season.
“I’m really looking forward to going racing this season! due to the pandemic, last year was restricted mainly to testing. I drove quite a lot with my Crosskart, and I got some useful tips from the CFA Academy. My goal in RallyX Nordic is to drive clean races, gain some experience of the speed at international level and ultimately, of course, to succeed. I want to win at least one race this season…” Halonen said.
The 2021 RallyX Nordic will fire up in about one month time with the season-opener taking place at Nysum in Denmark on the first weekend of May.
