After a stellar performance last weekend in Barcelona, MP Motorsport’s Felipe Drugovich has made it back-to-back Feature Race wins after conquering Monaco for forty-two laps in round five of the 2022 FIA Formula 2 season.
The Brazilian championship leader held off pressure by his current championship rival, Théo Pourchaire as the pair of them battled closely throughout the entirety of the race. Drugovich now see’s himself thirty-two points clear of Pourchaire at the top.
Hitech Grand Prix’s Jüri Vips completed the podium after a late charge which saw the Estonian driver catch up to the back of the leading pair in the latter stages of the race. Enzo Fittipaldi had another good display, finishing fifth behind Virtuosi Racing’s Jack Doohan in fourth.
Drugovich had really good pace in the early stages of the race, stretching a three second lead on Pourchaire and setting purple sectors everywhere.

The Safety Car was brought out on lap nineteen which allowed the frontrunners to benefit from a ‘cheap’ pit-stop. This was courtesy of Amaury Cordeel as the Van Amersfoort Racing driver clipped the wall out of the final corner and ended his race.
Another Safety Car was called shortly after the restart after Carlin’s Liam Lawson attempted a pass on Clément Novalak at the Grand Hotel Hairpin. A brave move ended with the Kiwi’s rear tyre tapping the Frenchman’s car which sent Novalak into the wall for his second retirement of the race weekend.
Drugovich later held off huge pressure from the man in second to secure MP Motorsport’s first win in Monaco, saying after the race,
“I’m extremely happy I’ve just won the Monaco Feature Race, I cannot explain the feeling. It was a
tough race yesterday and today we managed to come back. I was struggling quite a lot towards the
end and Théo was pressuring me a lot, but luckily, I didn’t make any mistakes.”
“We came here this weekend thinking this was going to be our weak point of the season, all slow tracks or street tracks but we managed to turn it around and find a good setup for the car and I’m just so happy with it.”
After two consecutive race weekends, Formula 2 will be back in just two weeks time for round six of the 2022 championship. The grid will reconvene in Baku, Azerbaijan on the Baku City Circuit on June 10-12th.
