Dutch driver Beitske Visser reflected on Sunday’s winning performance and her impressions of the Marina Bay Street Circuit after W Series’ first visit to Asia.

Having claimed an early lead from Marta Garcia, Visser’s brave defence against Alice Powell in the latter stages was enough to claim her second-ever W Series victory.

Following the race, the 27-year-old spoke of her delight to overcome that late pressure and prevail on the streets of Singapore.

“That win was definitely a long time coming,” Visser emphasised.

“I think in the last couple of races I have been there on pace but I didn’t just finish it off. Now, to finally finish it off, it feels very good. I got a good start, I wasn’t quite sure what to expect because they moved something around with the clutch and the biting-point and stuff so I was kind-of guessing it, but somehow I guess it worked. Hopefully I can carry this form into the next round.”

Widely regarded as one of the toughest races on the calendar, Visser also agreed that the Singapore Grand Prix is as demanding as often discussed.

“Definitely, it was a hot race because it’s quite hot out here. While driving it’s actually fine, but sitting on the grid and stuff and especially after the race, you start to feel the heat because the adrenaline goes down.

“The key is to keep the adrenaline up during the race. Alice [Powell] was pushing me for the whole race, so that was no issue!”

Nevertheless, the Sirin Racing driver highlighted her enjoyment during the event when questioned about how Marina Bay ranks among her favourite tracks.

“Well I’ve won, so it’s definitely up there! After practice I said that I already love this track. I’m very impressed with the amount of grip here, both in dry and in wet.

“I always love street tracks, so I really hope that we can come back here next year. It’s very cool to go to Asia and to be able to show the W Series here as well. I think the fans have been very cool this weekend; they’ve been supporting us.”

Next up for Visser is a trip to the Circuit of the Americas for round seven of W Series on the 21/22 October.
