McLaren end Barcelona test top of the timesheets

1 Mins read

McLaren Mercedes have declared themselves happy with their testing programme at the end of the final pre-season test of 2010, and are looking forward to the beginning of the new season.

Lewis Hamilton crowned the four day test by setting the fastest time on the final day, declaring himself happy and comfortable with his new car.

McLaren begun the test session on Thursday with Jenson Button in the car, concentrating primarily on mechanical and aerodynamic set-up work. Hamilton took over on Friday, spending the morning doing short runs with experimental set-ups, before setting off on a single long-distance run in the afternoon.

Button returned to the car on Saturday, the one day of the test affected by intermittent rain. Despite this, Jenson still managed to complete 105 laps, including a race situation. The world champion finished his final day of pre-season testing third in the standings.

Today Hamilton completed 134 laps, which included several simulated qualification runs, going head to head with Felipe Massa and Michael Schumacher, who were carrying out similar work for Ferrari and Mercedes respectively. The team carried out another race simulation in the afternoon.
