Hamilton Crashes Out Of German GP Free Practice 1

1 Mins read

Lewis Hamilton was left frustrated after the first free practice session at Hockenheim today ahead of this weekends German Grand Prix.

In a session that started with heavy-rain the 2008 World Champion was eight laps in to his practice run when he spun of track turn three.

As Hamilton reacted to catch the spin the McLaren speared off the track and spun in to the tyre barrier, damaging three corners of the car in the process including an impact at the rear of the McLaren.

“I’m in the wall, the car is damaged. Heavily.” Hamilton told the team over the radio before extracting himself from the stricken car and heading back to the paddock.

Despite team-mate Button finishing the session in third it was a tough time for the team as they tried to evaluate the ‘blown diffuser’ which was abandoned at Silverstone.

A video of Hamilton’s crash can be see at the BBC website here.
