Zamparelli And Thorp Take Donington Poles

1 Mins read

Dino Zamparelli and James Thorp shared the honours in the first two qualifying sessions of the 2011 Protyre Formula Renault BARC Championship at Donington Park. The duo were the class of the field throughout qualifying, locking out the front row for Rounds 1 and 2.

The day's first session saw Antel Motorsport's Zamparelli set a best time of 1m 07.599s to take pole by 0.108s from Thorp. Fortec Motorsport pairing Archie Hamilton and Josh Webster will line up on row two, with Scorpio Motorsport's Hector Hurst comfortably taking the honour of top rookie with a 1m 08.841s lap putting him fifth.

Completing the top six, running with his own RPD Motorsport team, is Steven Durrant, while lining up on row four will be Hillspeed's Howard Fuller and Kourosh Khani, who signed a late deal to compete with Scorpio. Zaamin Jaffer and Kieran Vernon complete the top ten, with SWB Motorsport's Macaulay Walsh and MGR Motorsport's Matt Mason on row six.

The second qualifying session saw Zamparelli topping the timesheets for the majority of the session, before a superb 1m 07.482s lap by Mtech Lite's Thorp saw him snatch pole late on, 0.283s ahead of Zamparelli. Hamilton once again lines up third, 0.427s off the pace, with Hurst completing the second row.

Fuller improved to line up fifth ahead of Fortec trio Vernon, Webster and Spaniard Victor Jiminez. Khani will start from ninth, with Walsh, Mason and Hillspeed's Jaffer completing the top twelve.
