Daniil Kvyat ‘happy’ after career best finish in Monaco

1 Mins read

Daniil Kvyat took his best finish in his Formula 1 career so far with an impressive drive to fourth in the Monaco Grand Prix, while his Infiniti Red Bull Racing team-mate Daniel Ricciardo was fifth.

The Russian driver, who’s previous best had been ninth (on five separate occasions), was handed fourth place back on the final lap by Ricciardo after allowing the Australian past initially to attempt to take a podium finish after running an alternative strategy. When it became clear that Ricciardo would not overtake Lewis Hamilton for third, Kvyat was allowed back through into fourth.

“I am happy with today’s race, it was my best finish in Formula One and it was a great result for the team to finish fourth and fifth,” said Kvyat. “I had a good start and was able to control my race from then on.

“We took a gamble with strategy allowing Daniel past after the last safety car to try and fight for a podium position, as he was on the faster Supersoft tyres.

“But as he was unable to pass anyone, as agreed, he gave the place back on the last lap. We hope we can carry this momentum onto the next races.”
