Ocon to test with Force India in Spain

1 Mins read

Mercedes-affiliated driver Esteban Ocon will test with the Sahara Force India team at the Circuit de Catalunya this week after Pascal Wehrlein withdrew from his testing duties due to illness.

Ocon, who won the opening race of the GP3 Series season last weekend at the track for ART Grand Prix, will take over the car on Wednesday, with Nick Yelloly now driving on Tuesday having originally been scheduled to participate on day two.

The reigning FIA European Formula 3 Champion was signed by Mercedes-Benz to be a part of its young driver programme last week, and is officially the reserve driver for their DTM Series team on top of his GP3 commitments.

“I’m really proud to have the support of Mercedes-Benz this season and that the Mercedes AMG DTM team has trusted me with the important role of test and reserve driver,” revealed Ocon last week.

“I spent last weekend with the DTM team in Hockenheim and hope that I can play a valuable role this year. I am proud to be racing with support from Mercedes-Benz and in a fantastic team like ART Grand Prix.”

Fellow Mercedes Junior driver Wehrlein is still scheduled to test for his parent team Mercedes on Wednesday, with Nico Rosberg driving day one of the test.
