The Mercedes AMG PETRONAS team will run with upgraded engines at the Autodromo Nazionale Monza this weekend after its engine department utilised its seven remaining available tokens.
Both Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg will use the upgraded engines as their third power unit of the season in Italy, although its customer teams, Sahara Force India, Lotus F1 Team and Williams Martini Racing, will have to wait to receive the development.
The developments are believed to have one eye on the 2016 season, with Mercedes so far declining to reveal the areas the tokens were used for, although rumours are that it provides some validation to use a new fuel from Petronas.
The team have confirmed that the upgraded power units are not just ‘Monza-spec’ engines, with the team focused on developing the units for the future.
Rumours in Italy are indicating that Ferrari are also set to run with updated engines at Monza for its drivers Sebastian Vettel and Kimi Raikkonen.
