Evans “The Team Deserves This Result”

1 Mins read

M-Sport‘s Elfyn Evans has commended his team after securing the best result of his career with second place on the 2015 Tour de Corse, round 11 of the FIA World Rally Championship. The Welshman and co-driver Daniel Barritt responded brilliantly to a poor result in Australia and he is now within two points of  sixth placed Kris Meeke.

Evans came into the final day just two seconds off leader Jari-Matti Lavala but with the Welshman lacking confidence in the slippery conditions the aim was to defend his second place from Andreas Mikkelsen. Despite the Volkswagen driver setting faster times than Evans the Ford Fiesta WRC RS driver managed to hold off the Norwegian finishing 3.2 seconds ahead.

“Coming here for the first time and seeing how tough the conditions were going to be, I never imagined that we’d be leading the rally by such a strong margin,” said Evans. “It was a bit of a nice surprise to say the least, and I’m glad that we were able to bring home such a strong result for the team because they really do deserve it. We have done a lot of work since Germany and it’s just great to see that it all paid off.  A big thanks to the team and also to the gravel crew who did a fantastic job all weekend.”

Crews will head to Spain in three weeks’ time for the penultimate round of the season.
