Esteban Ocon: “I’m happy with how everything went”

1 Mins read

Esteban Ocon completed the first day of Formula 1 in-season testing for Renault Sport Formula 1 Team at the Circuit de Catalunya.

In his first day of testing for the Enstone-based outfit, the Frenchman set a fastest lap time of 1 minute 26.530 seconds to finish the session in tenth. Completing a total of 105 laps behind the wheel of the RS16, the second highest after Nico Rosberg for Mercedes AMG Petronas.

“It was great to be behind the wheel of the R.S.16 for an entire day,” said Ocon. “We’ve had a pretty full programme but I’d happily do the same again. We completed the second highest number of laps today and I’m happy with how everything went.

“Of course, it would have been great to have gone for some fast laps with low fuel and soft tyres but that wasn’t the purpose of today. The team’s happy with all the data collected so it’s been great to contribute to the development of the car.”

Alongside his reserve driver role for Renault, Ocon is competing in the 2016 DTM season with Mercedes-Benz. He is also a Mercedes Junior Driver meaning that he will take over the driving duties from Nico Rosberg to drive the W07 on the second day of Barcelona testing tomorrow.

Kevin Magnussen will take over driving at Renault Sport Formula 1 Team on the final day of the Barcelona test.
