Lewis Hamilton continued his strong pace into Free Practice 2 for Mercedes AMG PETRONAS at the 2016 Canadian Grand Prix, setting the pace with a time of 1:14.212, which was faster than his 2015 pole position lap time.

Hamilton finished the session ahead of the Scuderia Ferrari of Sebastian Vettel, with the German splitting the Mercedes team-mates as Nico Rosberg ended the session third, over half a second shy of his team-mate. Behind Rosberg was Red Bull Racing‘s Max Verstappen and Daniel Ricciardo, who set fastest lap times of 1:15.156 and 1:15.168 respectively.

Continuing from his FP1 pace, Valtteri Bottas finished FP2 for Williams Martini Racing in sixth, while after a disappointing FP1 where Jenson Button finished twelfth for McLaren-Honda after suffering an oil leak on a brand new engine, the Briton finished the session in seventh, setting a fastest lap time of 1:15.213, the exact same time as Bottas.

At the beginning of the session for Kimi Raikkonen, he was setting laps that were behind Manor Racing in twenty-second. On his first run with low fuel and the Ultrasoft Pirelli compound, he managed to set a lap time that saw him jump up to ninth, and from there he then went even faster to finish the session eighth fastest ahead of the Sahara Force India of Nico Hulkenberg.

Carlos Sainz Jr completed the top ten for Scuderia Toro Rosso with a time of 1:15.410 to finish the session ahead of fellow Spaniard Fernando Alonso, while Sergio Perez finished behind the two Spaniards for Force India in twelfth with a time of 1:15.493, with only two hundredths separating Perez and the Williams of Felipe Massa, who was able to get a decent amount of running after his free practice one crash.

Daniil Kvyat went fourteenth fastest for Toro Rosso despite a few excursions off the track at turn one, with the Russian finishing ahead of Haas F1 Team driver Romain Grosjean. Renault Sport F1‘s Kevin Magnussen was just behind the Frenchman in sixteenth while Felipe Nasr was seventeenth fastest for Sauber F1, finishing in the same position as his opening session.

Behind Nasr was the second Haas of Esteban Gutierrez who separated the two Sauber’s ahead of Marcus Ericsson, while Jolyon Palmer set a fastest lap time of 1:17.001 to go twentieth.  At the back of the field were the Manor Racing duo of Pascal Wehrlein and Rio Haryanto, with Wehrlein finishing the session four-tenths ahead of Haryanto.
