Pascal Wehrlein: “We’re edging closer to the midfield pack”

Pascal Wehrlein is hoping for a wet weekend at the Red Bull Ring in order to shake up the field and bring Manor Racing into contention for a points finish on Sunday.

The German felt he was having a strong outing last time out around the Baku Street Circuit before brake issues saw him retire early, and hopes the weather comes to the team’s aid this time around.

Wehrlein feels the smallest team on the grid are making the gains necessary to be amongst the midfield runners, and feels with a bit of luck they could snatch a point or two, perhaps even in Austria this weekend.

“The weather in this region is always a bit unpredictable but the forecast here is for a wet weekend,” said Wehrlein. “This could shake things up a bit in the way that we hoped Baku might.

“Performance-wise, that race was going to plan for us until I suffered the brake problem. We’re edging closer to the midfield pack, so we just need to keep pushing and make sure we’re in the best possible position when a bit of luck comes our way.

“This is a great track, one with a lot of history and some interesting technical challenges, so I can’t wait to be back in the car to pick up where we left off.”
