Lorenzo will be driving the Mercedes W05

MotoGP rider Jorge Lorenzo  is being given the chance to drive Lewis Hamilton’s 2014 championship winning Mercedes this week at Silverstone Circuit, home of the British Grand Prix.

The arrangements have been made by Monster Energy, the drinks brand that sponsors both Mercedes and Lorenzo’s MotoGP team, Yamaha. The Spaniard is said to have been trying to organise the drive since June, but has had considerable trouble in finding a suitable date for the event.

The five time MotoGP champion (including the 2015 championship) will be getting behind the wheel of the 2014 Formula 1 championship winning car, the Mercedes W05.

Despite having ridden the Silverstone circuit many times on a motorbike, Lorenzo has prepared himself by driving the world-renowned track with several, significantly less powerful, cars, so that he can acclimatise to the different challenges that he will face in the Mercedes. The Spaniard has also got some car racing experience, which should greatly help him.

Straight after his test, Lorenzo will be flying to Japan for the start of MotoGP’s Asian-Pacific tour, where he sits in third place overall in the championship, behind teammate Valentino Rossi and Marc Marquez.
