Sebastian Vettel has been handed his first reprimand of 2016 after stewards in the United States penalised him for driving the wrong side of the bollard at pit entry.

The Scuderia Ferrari driver was handed the reprimand because he did not stay to the left of the bollard as he entered the pit lane during the second session on Friday, as was required by Race Director Charlie Whiting this weekend at the Circuit of the Americas.

Vettel appeared to find one of the McLaren-Honda drivers in his way as he turned left before the final corner to return to the pits, with the German then deciding to drive around the bollard, which ultimately triggered the investigation.

The German finished the opening free practice session at the Austin circuit down in eighth position, before finishing fourth fastest in session two, 0.820 seconds down on pacesetter and current championship leader Nico Rosberg.
