Meyrick signs on with Dyson for selected ALMS races

1 Mins read

Dyson Racing have announced their latest signing in the shape of British racer Andy Meyrick, who will join Chris Dyson and Guy Smith in the #16 LMP2 Mazda Lola Coupe for the three long-distance American Le Mans Series races.

With the season kicking off on March 20 at Sebring with the annual 12 hour race, Meyrick will continue to partner Dyson and Smith at Monterey on 22 May and Petit Le Mans on 2 October.

Meyrick will bring a huge amount of experience with him after he raced the Audi R10 TDI in the Le Mans Series in 2009 for the Kolles LMP team, taking the team’s best-ever finish with a fourth at Nurburgring and setting the team’s best qualifying effort at Silverstone.

Meyrick blitzed the British F3 series in 2008 taking seven wins and ten poles from twelve starts, picking up the BRDC Rising Star along the way.

“Andy's talent and determination came through very strongly at our two winter tests. He impressed us greatly with his speed, maturity and general approach to the team. It was a very good fit straight away,” noted Chris Dyson. “We won the Petit Le Mans last year and the team looks forward to having Andy on board for all three of this season's endurance races. We welcome him to American sportscar racing and expect he will showcase his talent quickly. It will not take long for the fans to see what we saw when he first got behind the wheel.”

Meyrick is looking forward to starting his American dream, “I am really excited to be joining Dyson Racing,” Meyrick said. “They have an amazing history in endurance racing in the USA. Both Rob and Chris Dyson are very passionate about their racing and I am very grateful to them for the chance to be in the 16 car with Chris and Guy. It is an ideal situation for me to make my debut in the ALMS. Chris first invited me to test late last year and our focus has been to secure this drive ever since. The Mazda Lola is a great package and I am really looking forward to the challenge of Sebring and the other events.”

Meyrick is due to get his first experience behind the wheel of the #16 LMP2 Mazda Lola Coupe today as the ALMS series kicks off with it’s first official test session of 2010.
