Porsche Drivers Happy With Sebring Qualifying

1 Mins read

Porsche works driver Jorg Bergmeister was happy with his performance as he qualified second fastest in the GT2 class ahead of the 12 hour race in Sebring, missing out on first place by 0.368 seconds to BMW driver Dirk Muller.

The Flying Lizard driver who will be defending his title shares the driving duties with Patrick Long and Marc Lieb said “My lap was very good, but I couldn't have done any more today,” he said. “Second place on the grid for a twelve hour race is an excellent starting position.”

Wolf Henzler also impressed with his new team Falken Tire as he qualified behind the Flying Lizard Porsche. “I'm over the moon. No one in our new team expected such a great result,” he said. “We don't want to get our expectations for the race up too high. It'll be very hard to hold on to this position over the distance. But we're certainly going to give it our best shot.” Henzler will be joined this weekend by Patrick Pilet and Bryan Sellers.

However the qualifying story hadn’t finished there for the GT2 class, during the post-qualification technical  inspection the BMW of Muller failed on a technicality, moving the Flying Lizard Porsche of Bergmeister to the front while the BMW starts from the back.

Meanwhile in the LMP2 Prototype class Klaus Graf took his Porsche RS Spyder to second place for the Cytosport team. For the race he will be joined by Sascha Maassen and Greg Pickett.

With 18 overall wins and 63 class victories Porsche will be hoping its works drivers can add to those figures when the 12 hour race kicks off tomorrow and 15.30 CET.
