Robbie Maddison showed the prowess of a matador at the latest round of the Red Bull X-Fighters as the freestyle motorcross riders headed to Madrid’s legendary bullfighting ring.
The Australian rider wowed the crowds with his usual standards including a brand-new trick as he completed a full rotation of his body over the bike while 15 metres in the air.
“The Volt Body Varial definitely helped me win,” said the rider who is came to prominence after jumping London Bridge in 2009 and then across the Corinth Canal in Greece in 2010. Following his victory he added: “I still can't believe it!”
The competition was fierce in front of the 25,000 strong crowd as Swiss rider Mat Rebeaud claimed second on his comeback following a major crash earlier in the year.
Local favourite and 2009 winner Dany Torres had to settle for fourth place but was happy with the event as a whole: “The atmosphere here is just insane. Next year I'll be back to take revenge, but Maddison deserved to win here tonight. Thank you to all the fans.”
Norwegen rider Andrè Villa took place in the event after yet another strong performance and now leads Maddison by 45 points as the X-Fighters tour heads to London on 14 August.
“I've got to stay consistent and finish on the podium in London and at the season finale in Rome.” admits Villa, “If I manage to do that then nothing can stand between me and the overall title,”
