Steven Kane Joins British GT Field At Silverstone

1 Mins read

2010 British Touring Car front-runner Steven Kane will join the Bgritish GT Championhsip as part of the ever-growing grid for the two-hour race at Silverstone on August 14-15.

Ulsterman Kane will pair up with Iain Dockerill in Chad Racing prepared Ferrari 430 Scuderia, joining the two similar cars of series regulars Chris Hyman and Dan Brown and Paul Warren and Tom Ferrier. A further three Scuderia machines will enter the race under the banners of MTECH, Predator and Rosso Verde at the event.

“I drove the Scuderia for the first time at Spa a few weeks ago in a Belgian GT round and we took third from near the back of the grid,” said Kane. The aim is to help Iain to get a bit more experience. He is enjoying driving the Ferrari and he's really taken to driving it like a duck to water. I'm there to help him and to try to get a result for the team. GTs is definitely an option for me in the future: I'd love to do Le Mans at some point in my career. British GT is a great place to start and to learn the craft.”

Chad Racing team manager Piers Masarati is looking for a strong result from the new pairing, adding to an already successful 2010 for the team in racing across Europe and acting as a step towards the teams 2011 campaigns.

“We've had quite a bit of success in Belgium and in European GT3 racing generally, and we're looking for a little of that magic to rub off on our British GT campaign,” he said. “One of our cars was on pole for one of the FIA GT3 races at Brno and took fastest lap, and we made the podium at Jarama, and at Spa in Belgian GTs.”

“Iain prefers the longer distance races and Steven is an accomplished driver, so they have a good chance, even though the Ferraris face a tough challenge from some of the other lighter-on-fuel machinery. Steven is an immensely capable driver and we are hopeful he will drive with us full time in British GT in 2011, and in the European GT2 endurance series if a suitable co-driver can be found.”
