Avon Tyres Continues As British GT Sponsor, Supplier

1 Mins read

Avon Tyres will extend its association with the British GT Championship to nine years after the confirmation that the firm will continue to be the championship's sponsor and control tyre supplier until at least 2014.

“We have enjoyed working with the British GT Championship and are delighted to have formalised an agreement with the championship organisers for a further three years,” said Julian Baldwin managing director of Cooper Tyre Europe, Avon's parent company. “The constantly-changing mix of cars, each with different characteristics, really tests our expertise but the Avon crew enjoy meeting the challenge head on.”

“Avon Tyres has shown great dedication to our championship, both on track and behind the scenes,” adds Stephane Ratel, chairman of the SRO, series promoters. “The nature of GT racing brings special challenges for a tyre supplier and Avon has always delivered a superior product that delivers equal performance across a wide range of machinery and generates fantastic race action.”

“I am certain that Avon Tyres will continue to support British GT with marketing and promotion, bringing the excitement and aspirational glamour of top-flight GT racing to the race fans of the UK.”

The series' 2011 calendar – released last month – includes a wider variety of race formats than previous years with two and three hour races given greater prominence in the season. It is just these kind of longer races where Avon's product – and how the teams choose to use it over the course of the weekend – could prove crucial to the outcome of the race.
