George Murrells headed to Donington Park last week to test a Ginetta G50, as he looks to move into the new Ginetta GT Supercup in 2011. He tested with Optimum Motorsport, the team that he drove for as he took the 2010 Ginetta Challenge Championship.
In his first test in a G50, the former Stock Hatch driver went on to beat the fastest race lap time set during the BTCC meeting earlier in the year, despite being on heavily used tyres. The test proved a successful start to preparations ahead of next season.
Commenting on the test, Murrells said: “I'd like to race the new G55 next year and this was an ideal starting point. I'm pleased with the initial lap times and hope we can get everything organised to be on the grid in April.”
Optimum boss Ron Linn said: “George didn't waste time in getting to very fast laps. It was a really impressive debut in the car. We'd definitely like to run him in the Ginetta GT Supercup next year”.
