Brands Hatch Plays Host To Charity Ice Skater

1 Mins read

Brands Hatch saw a different set of wheels gracing its tarmac at the weekend, as Charity Fundraiser Teddy Keen skated around the Kent circuit. He visited the track in preparation for his participation in the 200km Kuopio Ice skating marathon in Finland.

The event takes place on 20th February, with Keen taking part to raise money for Great Ormond Street Hospital and Headlines. The charities hold a place close to Keen's heart, as both help his younger brother, Angus, who suffers from Apert Syndrome. Keen spent half an hour lapping the Indy circuit, becoming the third generation of his family to experience the track.

Keen said: “Both my dad and step-dad have raced at Brands Hatch and it was great to finally follow in their footsteps, albeit, at 1/10th of the pace. At one point coming round Paddock Hill Bend I soon realised the gradient was way beyond my skating skills, and I tried slowing but it was too late. Down I went in true biker style, but instead of leathers all I had was lycra. Ouch!”

“Training on the circuit was great practice for my 200km ice race challenge in Finland . I only hope their track is a bit flatter!

“It was a great day; many thanks to Brands Hatch for making it possible for me take over the track. The children at Great Ormond Street will really appreciate Brands Hatch giving me the chance to practice before my big day.”
