Two of the World Rally Championship's biggest names will continue in the series in 2011 after all, with both Kimi Raikkonen and Petter Solberg clinching late deals to start Rally Sweden in Citroen DS3 WRCs.
The future of the Scandinavian pairing, 2008 Formula 1 and 2003 World Rally Champions respectively, had been up in the air over the winter months as both struggled to secure the necessary support to acquire one of Citroen Racing's new challengers.
Raikkonen has lodged a last-minute entry with Rally Sweden organisers under the ICE 1 Racing entrant name. The team has also been listed on the FIA's provisional list of entrants for the 2011 season.
Solberg, who had recently been pondering a switch to circuit racing, will also contest the season opener in a Citroen DS3 WRC, entered by his own Petter Solberg World Rally Team. Although the team was not listed alongside ICE 1 Racing on the FIA list of entrant's, team manager Ken Rees has said to WRC.com that they will register as a WRC Team eligible for manufacturer points soon.
