Motorsport Vision Racing (MSVR) have been confirmed as the organisers for the EV Cup. The series is the first in the world to have a grid full of entirely zero emission carbon-free electric vehicles.
Set to begin in summer 2011, the EV Cup is a ground breaking development in eco-friendly motorsport. The series is set to be split into three catergories, one for race-prepared urban THINK cars, a sports EV class for Westfield iRacers and a prototype class that will work in a time trial format for non-production electric vehicles.
MSVR, the racing division of MSV, will oversee the EV Cup's UK races. Events are already confirmed at Silverstone, Snetterton, Rockingham and Brands Hatch, alongside overseas rounds in Spain, Portugal and the USA. The race weekends will feature qualifying rounds, then 20 to 30 minutes sprint races, with car batteries recharged on-site.
EV Cup Race Director. Grahame Butterworth said: “The EV Cup is an entirely new and ground breaking project and we wanted to work with the best organisations possible in order to make our first season a major success. For us, that's MSVR, and we're looking forward to developing this exciting partnership in 2011 and beyond.”
David Scott, MSVR Race Operations Manager, added: “With MSVR continuing to develop and expand, the EV Cup brings yet another exciting category to our portfolio. It really is a unique concept and a major development in eco-friendly motorsport, and we are delighted to be involved in the EV Cup's inaugural season.”
