After claiming his first class win at Donington Ahmad Al Harthy showed similar form in Porsche Carrera Cup GB qualifying at Thruxton, where he took third in class.
The two girds for the series are formed by taking drivers' fastest two laps from the 30-minute session and the 29-year-old put in a consistent performance to put his Oman Air Racing Team entered car third in class for both race, his second best lap less than a tenth shy of his best time from the session.
“Overall I'm happy with my performance today,” said the Omani driver. “We start third in class for both races tomorrow which is where we need to be to fight for more podiums and to continue our great start to the season.”
Like many other drivers Al Harthy was mindful of the 21 lap races – the longest on the TOCA package – on the harsh Thruxton surface that lay ahead; “the races will be long and it's going to be so important here to look after the tyres. I had that in mind during qualifying, the drivers who look after the tyres the best should be better off in the races so we'll see what happens. I think we have a good set-up for tomorrow so I'm looking forward to it.”
The two Porsche Carrera Cup GB races are scheduled for 12:10pm and 4:25pm, both shown live in the UK on ITV4. Fans from outside the UK can follow the action on www.itv.com/touringcars.
