TCR’s Breeze Maintains Supercup Lead

1 Mins read

Michelin Ginetta GT Supercup star Carl Breeze consolidated his advantage in the 2011 championship with a strong weekend at his home circuit Snetterton, the 2010 G50 Cup Vice-Champion picking up one win and another podium finish.

Kings Lynn-based Breeze was Total Control Racing's only entrant in the Supercup for the weekend, with the points leader started off well, going fastest in pre-event testing, before setting pole position for the Wednesbury team during Saturday's qualifying.

During Saturday's first race, Round Fifteen, Breeze held off an early challenge from arch-rival Nathan Freke, before going on to control the race and win by 1.5 seconds, his third victory of the season. Round Sixteen, also taking place on Saturday, saw the TCR man slip to second at the start behind Freke and despite putting constant pressure on the leader, he has to settle for second, his twelfth podium of the season.

The reverse grid for Round Seventeen put Breeze fifth on the grid and after putting an early challenge in for the podium, Breeze settled for fourth place, concentrating on bringing his car home safely. He did close up on the podium places late on though, crossing the line just 0.8 seconds shy of the rostrum. He now heads to Knockhill in four weeks' time with a 31 point lead in the championship.

Team principal Lee Brookes commented: “Ginetta-wise we've pulled plenty of points this weekend and extended our lead overall so we're very pleased with that. Yes, you always want to win – that's why we go racing – but Carl did a great job all weekend and to have a win, another podium and a fourth place is fantastic.”
