1 Mins read

Norfolk based driver Steve Quick has claimed the first Lotus Cup UK championship, overturning a 12 point deficit in the final race on the Brands Hatch Indy circuit.

Competing in the Production class with a Lotus Elise Quick entered the finale trailing Ken Savage, However, with twenty minutes of the hour long race gone Savage's Elise S1 began to smoke heavily. Savage fought on until the pit window opened in the middle of the race, but was forced to retire with a terminal mechanical failure.

Savage's retirement meant Quick needed only to finish the race, which he did, finishing fifth in the production class won by Stuart Plotnek.

At the head of the 28 car field Mark Fullalove led a Lotus 2-Eleven top three overall, beating 2-Eleven class champion Steve Williams into second place by a healthy margin of ten seconds. Pete Storey completed the overall podium.

Exige Cup class champion Glenn Sherwood, combining with Jamie Stanley finished fourth. Greg Rasse and Vitthal Chauhan won the 2011 title in the Evora Cup and Lotus Open classes repectively.

Steve Quick added to his personal spoils in the pair of Lotus Elise Trophy races, scoring a podium in each race behind winners Stuart Rowland and Ken Savage – making up for some of the disappointment from the Lotus Cup result.
