Series organisers have completed the 2012 Avon Tyres British GT Championship with the announcement of a blue riband European race supporting the Nurburgring 24 Hours on May 17-19.

“We are extremely pleased to be able to announce this,” said championship manager Benjamin Franassovici. “The Nürburgring 24 Hours is an historic and very special race, and to be a part of it will be great for everyone connected with the Avon Tyres British GT Championship.”

The British GT field will race on the modern Grand Prix circuit, rather than the historic Nordschleife used by the 24 hour race, entertaining the bumper crowd attracted by the weekend's main event.

The planned two one hour races on the German track will form the second weekend of the 2012, following on from the season opening event at Oulton Park.

In order to make way for the Nurburgring weekend the Rockingham round of the British GT and Formula 3 championship have been pushed back two weeks from their initial provisional date to 9-10 June.

Full 2012 Avon Tyres British GT Championship provisional calendar
7-9 April – Oulton Park
17-19 May – Nurburgring GP
9-10 June – Rockingham
23-24 June – Brands Hatch GP
4-5 August – Snetterton
8-9 September – Silverstone GP
