Caterham Motorsport have appointed karting ace Laura Tillett as a project leader for their new karting championship that will launch in 2013.

20 year old Tillett was the first British Female karter to compete in the KF1 World Championship and has enjoyed considerable success on the British scene. The Kent-based driver is looking to move into car racing in 2012, having recently completed a Renault Clio test with Total Control Racing.

Caterham announced plans for their karting championship at the recent Autosport International Show, with it being a key component in their plans to create a ladder from entry-level motorsport all the way through to Formula 1.

Explaining Laura's role, Caterham Motorsport Manager Simon Lambert said: “We're delighted to welcome Laura on board. Kart racing is clearly in her family's blood and her expert knowledge of the karting world will be invaluable in helping us set up what will be a uniquely accessible championship. Laura will be working on every aspect of our planned karting series, from race formats to technical specifications and from race venues to organisational know-how.”
