Oulton Weekend A ‘Little Disappointing’ For Sharp

Tom Sharp was left frustrated after only being able to pick up third and fourth place finishes during Rounds Ten and Eleven of the 2012 Michelin Ginetta GT Supercup.

Camberley-based Sharp, who headed into the meeting with eight wins in the first nine races and a healthy championship was hoping to continue his strong start to the season around the undulating parkland circuit in Cheshire.

The IDL UK driver set the early pace during the twenty minute qualifying session, but soon dropped to third and was unable to go quicker, the first pole position he's missed out on this season. The opening race took place on Saturday afternoon, with Sharp running in third behind Carl Breeze early on. Unable to find his way past his experienced rival, the V-CARS.co.uk backed driver settled for third at the flag.

The second race saw Sharp running in third behind Breeze once again, though this time he put his rival under more sustained pressure. Their battle allowed Hunter Abbott to catch on the rear and he was able to pass Sharp at the Hairpin, with Sharp unable to get back past, leaving him in fourth.

Sharp, who still holds a 91 point championship lead, said: “It's a little disappointing to only come away with a third and fourth place, because I know that we had a car quick enough to challenge for the wins, but then again we haven't lost much of our lead so well focus now on Croft in two weeks time.”
