The KX Akademy have named the first five drivers it will support next season, with 2012 recipients Stefan Hodgetts and Tom Ingram joined by newcomers Rob Boston, Luke Herbert and Ant Whorton-Eales.
Hodgetts, Herbert and Whorton-Eales will all compete with Scuderia Vittoria in the Renault UK Clio Cup next season, while Boston will join Ingram in the G55 class of the Ginetta GT Supercup.
Herbert and Boston will be making their debuts in the series, graduating from the Mazda MX-5 and Lotus Cup UK championships respectively.
Each driver will receive a cash injection towards their 2013 campaigns from energy drink brand KX, as well as mentoring and support from two-time British Touring Car Champion Jason Plato.
“As has been covered many times in the past months, the volume of applicants and the calibre of them has been incredibly high for 2013 so the final selection has been difficult,” Plato told Motorsport News.
“The judging panel spent many hours debating and if I’m honest, arguing over the merits of each candidate. Some stood head and shoulders above because they had considered their role in the promotion of the brand and its these drivers we want to support next season.”
KX are aiming to support two more drivers, with final discussions still taking place.
