It was formation flying for Chip Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates as the 2013 Rolex 24 at Daytona settled in to Sunday morning. The two Riley BMWs, driven by the two Scotts of Pruett and Dixon, led the way ahead of Christian Fittipaldi‘s Action Express Racing Corvette DP.

The main source of action in the first half of the hour came from the Corvette DPs of Jordan Taylor in the VelocityWW car and Joao Barbosa of Action Express Racing battling over 4th place, with the former coming out on top.

A spin from Paul Tracy in the #77 Doran Racing Ford Dallara brought out the fifth full-course caution of the race near the 1am mark.

Many teams took the chance to change drivers during the caution, with the two Ganassi cars switching drivers and positions, meaning the lead after pitstops belonged to Charlie Kimball in the #01 with Dario Franchitti behind in the #02.

As the green flag dropped Franchitti made no hesitation in passing Kimball as he drove around the outside his team-mate’s Corvette DP at Turn 1. Later in the lap Sebastien Bourdais found himself dropping rapidly through the field as he missed his braking at the bus stop chicane, resulting in the Starworks with Alex Popow Ford Riley having to come to a complete stop and wait for a break in the traffic before rejoining the race.

The GT class was led by Sean Edwards piloting the #30 MOMO/NGT Motorsport Porsche GT3 Cup car at the top end of the hour, with Oliver Jarvis holding second and Marcus Winkelhock rounding out the top three.

By the time the caution flag flew, Edwards was still in the lead with Olivier Beretta‘s Ferrari 458 and Christopher Haase‘s Audi R8 rounding out the top three, however after the stops the lead had been picked up by Richard Lietz‘s Magnus Racing Porsche GT3.

The full-course caution created a very close battle at the sharp end of the GT class, with the top four positions separated by less than a second.

The remaining three cars in the GX class had become incredibly spread out by this point, with three laps separating each position, led by the #16 Napleton Racing Porsche Cayman.
